Topic : Immersion Assembly

Introduction :  The 12th of October was the start of a new school term. We come into school and  have Immersion Assembly, that's when we learn the new topic of the term, and what each  team will be doing related to the topic. For this term, our  topic is art alive, or in other words Toi ra.  

Senior management team:

At the assembly Mr Jacobson , Mr Somerville and Mrs Nua were painting the school logo.After they painted the school logo Mr Burt told a story about how the school logo came to be.When the drew the school logo they drew a bird in the middle of the picture.

Team 1 :

Our theme is art alive so this term we are going to focus on learning about all sorts of art.Team 1 made a movie showing them as famous paintings.(example like the girl with the pearl earring)

Team 2 :

Team 2 made a movie showing them making different types of art.Mrs Gaston was making the teachers faces using different ways you could draw people(example like digital art).Then Mrs Carter made a movie showing how she uses art in her culture she was making some sort of design using rice powder.Miss Davis Made a movie showing how you can use different colours of circles and make like a never ending design.Miss Teleso made a video showing how to draw different pacific patterns.

Team 3 :

Team 3 made a movie showing them splashing paint at a white sheet.At the end is looked like a rainbow with all sorts of colour. When they showed us the sheet they added a drawing of a rainbow and a bridge.

Team 4 :

Team 4 forgot to make a video but luckily the could screen record there google meet.So when they had a meeting Mr Goodwin screen recorded and they had 5 minutes to draw what they were going to do this term.Then after 5 minutes Miss Tuia came with a drawing of a Maori pattern.Then Mr Goodwin showed a drawing of Miss Tuia's dog.Then the rest of the teachers showed their drawings.

Team 5 :

Team 5 did a play where they were acting like they where in a art gallery and they were going around the gallery and they learnt about the different art.The teachers where dressed up as famous art pecices. Mrs Tele'a was dressed up as a Samoan warrior.

My  goal  for  this term's topic is to get better at everything for art. And  goal for this whole year is to make the most of my time with my friends while i'm still in this school!! 

Immersion Assembly - Welcome Back To Term 3 - A World Of Difference

*Sigh* Today is the first day of Term 3. Our theme for this term is "A world of difference!". This morning I entered school and said Haii to a whole bunch of my friends that  I missed. The VERY first person I said Hi to was my two older cousins,  Alison and Jarreka. Once the bell rang we had to sit in the street and listened to our teachers greet us. After all of that was done, we went into the hall with all the other students. We said the school Karakia (Prayer)  and listened to Mr Burt.


He said he LOVED collecting hats from different parts of the world that he's been to. We also got to learnt that Mr Jacobson is part Scottish and he was wearing his grand-father's clothing that he wore in the war. The patterns on his bottom clothing were for people to see what village he's from. It was nice of him to share something quite personal to his family. He even told us that his kilt was a family heirloom from his grand father and more generations.


Then we got fascinated learning that Mr Somerville's family was a whole generation of knights.  He was a third generation kiwi that moved to New Zealand. He even showed us his family crest that he's pretty sure was on the knights shield. He also showed all of us where they were living before and that someone from his family were friends with someone else from Scott land. So it's most likely that either way Mr Somerville and Mr Jacobson were meant to be friends.


 Then we started with team 1 for what they were learning about, like always. The teachers of team 1 made a video about them wanting to know more about how different children come to school, what they eat, how they manage with their inventor time. They showed some disturbing lunches, but they were very fascinating. Then Ms Hockley showed us how to say our theme in sign-language.


Team 2 were showing a video a  video about Dora the Explorer. They were travelling the whole of New Zealand and said they were learning about the main tourist places in New Zealand. They said they were also looking and learning about famous landmarks here in New Zealand. I think they'll have a really fun time learning about those things.


Then we watched team 3's video. It was all about "The Amazing Race". They had to travel the whole world and complete different but small activities to find their next destinations. Sadly, I can't really remember the different places they had to go to, but I know team 3 will have an amazing time learning about these different places around the world.


Second to last was team 4. The start of their video was making me hungry because they were eating really good looking food. Plus, Miss West was using google to find out where each of the different foods they were eating came from. When Mr Goodwin came in it made me laugh because he was trying to sound smart by knowing where his food came from. But Miss West corrected  him to where his food actually came from and Miss Tuia corrected him on the actual pronunciation  for his food. Then he got angry and took a harsh bite into his food. So basically they were learning about the different foods around the world.


Then last was team 5. The teachers were acting out the Samoan Myth or legend of Sina and the eel.Mrs Ilaoa acted as Sina and Mrs Tele'a acted as the Eel. It was such an emotional love story. The Eel was a prince and he was getting demanding for the Princess to love him, but sadly she didn't feel the same way. She was getting to frighted that she ran to her family and her cousin who was played by the beautiful Mrs Tapuke went a cut the Eel's head off. As his last wish, he wanted Sina to plant his head into the ground and create a coconut tree. Now when Sina took the coconut his face was on there. The three holes for his eyes and his mouth. Then every time she drinks from the coconut, she was basically kissing him.


 At the end, Mrs Tele'a told us the different things we could do with the coconut. We could use it as a drink, as for Cook Island people, they use the coconut as a costume, but they clean it first. People can also use the coconut as a Island Oil and more stuff. Once we all left the hall we got to say what we did in the holidays. All i did was stay home, babysit and more fun stuff.

Where you excited to start school again?

This week I started school, and I wasn’t excited. You wanna know why?

It’s because I know that throughout the term there is going to be drama,

like more people yelling, and heaps of arguments.

It was already Monday, and I still wasn’t excited.

I was only happy in the morning, because my sister’s best friend came over

(Heather). Anyway… I came to school, and saw my best friend/cousin.

She just came back from the Cook Islands (Rarotonga).

I entered the school gates, and class.

I saw my teacher, but we had to go to the street (Hall in team 5)

and have our usual team 5 assembly. Like usual we have our Karakia

(Prayer) and our hymn (song). Then we had to line up in our BG

(Boy & Girl) lines ready for Immersion Assembly! 

We all walked into the breeze, and smelled something fishy.

When we walked in we had our senior management team (some staff)

make some fish, because this term’s topic is “Something in the water”. 

Skipping to the best part…. We had some kai moana, and saw some

amazing performances made by the staff of P.E.S. I have only one highlight.

First one was Team 4’s video. Team 4 & 5 always have the funny videos.

Team 4 had a video of them saying what sea creature eats what.

Like for example Mrs Parrant said that there is a plankton,

and that the muscle’s eat, then the crab eats the muscle,

and the seagull eats the crab. But the one thing that’s still stuck

in my mind is, what eats the Seagull. 

The ending was cool, but I still don’t want to come to school.

Today on the 29th of April we had our second Immersion Assembly at Point England school. Our whole entire school was their..... Well besides the absent people. Our inquiry for this Term is I like your Latitude. Our principal said that Mr Jacobson (Technician man) said it was some kind of pun, because it rhymes with Attitude. Latitude means how high up or down you are and longitude means how long you are.

I want to talk to you about team 4's video. Their video was really funny because they combined the fact that they had to find out how to get to school and that they were using the scene from Moana, but in real life. I really enjoyed it because it had some really hilarious parts like how Miss Sio was pretending to follow the stars like Moana's anscestors. They followed the stars to get to another island. All of the teachers of team 4, besides Mr Goodwin, followed Miss Sio because they thought she would get them to school, but instead she got them to the great tongs takeaway in G.I ( Glen Innes ). My second favorite part of their video was when all the teachers once again besides Mr Goodwin went to the Richberry Cafe in G.I. They all went in because they wanted some food to eat, but Ms West was busy trying to find her way back to school.

Then they finally got to school and Mr Goodwin was happy to see them because I forgot to mention he blocked the GPS from their phones and gave them that task. Then when he was about to go for a hug with all the teachers ( Girls ), they suddenly argued with him in a aggressive way and complained to him. So then one of the teachers slammed the door on Mr Goodwin and he was left their alone. I never felt sad for him because he deserved it.
