Taha Tinana

For this task we had to go on a New Zealand sign language dictionary where we found out how to say 3 different sports in sign language.We learnt who to say the 4 different sports in sign language to celebrate New Zealand sign language week.

Rata and the tree

This is our reading task. It's about the myth or legend of Rata and the tree. First we had to agree or disagree towards a statement. Then we had to pick another myth or legend of Maui. I chose Maui and the sun. I enjoyed this task because I got to re-read this text and get a better understanding of this story.  

Writing - Sign Language

For this task we had to do a explanation writing for sign language week. We also explained what NZSL is. As our tests are coming up next term this was kind of like a practice for our writing test.

Taha Whanau - Introducing the members of my family

For this task we had to pick one of the Taha's. I picked Taha Whanau, because I wanted to introduce my family. I have one brother, two sisters my parent and me. That's my family!!

Taha Hinengaro - Mixed Emotions

Today I had to do a blog post about hinegaro and this was about my feeling and about how I feel about the three things on the first page. It was easy because I just needed to video my self how I feel

c) take a Maths/Writing/Reading test

The three Emotions I picked was Nervous, frightened and excited

Taha Tinana - Sign Language

For this task we had to pick three different sports on slide one. Then we had to try and do it in sign language. The three sports I did was Netball, Soccer and Table Tennis. I picked these ones because I enjoy them. 

Te Reo Maori - Ko Wai O Hoa

For this task we were asking each other, Who are your friends? in Maori. Or we could do parents and teachers. Raua means only two people and Ratou means more than two. For the create task me and my friend Laolao decided to  make it look like we were messaging each other. I also  added Maori and English translation for those who don't understand. I enjoyed this task because I got to learn how to say my friends in Maori!!

Taha Whanau - How to introduce yourself in Sign Language

For this task we did Taha Whanau. We had to try and introduce ourselves in Sign Language. I enjoyed this task because I got to learn how to spell my name. 

Greek Myth

For this task we had did a math task based on the Greek Myth of Theseus and the Minotaur.

Sign Language Week!!

 

Happy sign language week to everyone!! For this task we learnt how to say I live in the top half of New Zealand Aotearoa. This was confusing at first, but just started learning very slowly and took tiny stepson learning this. You can learn it too, just  copy from these bottom photos and work your way up! This is the Link that we  used to find out how to do this!! 

Taha Whanau!! English To Tongan

Today for Te whare tapa wha our theme and focus for today was Taha whanau so we had to make a poster of our family but we had to translate the words in tongan because it's tongan language week today, this task was very fun to make and I enjoyed learning tongan launguage.

Taha Hinengaro!! TONGAN LANGUAGE WEEK!!

MALO E LELEI EVERYONE!! It's Tongan Language week this week. We have started learning about the beautiful Island of Tonga. Our learning for this whole week will also be based on Tongan language. So for these task we had to find out four different Tongan words to say to someone. These words are what I usually say or show in school and in my family.   Then we had to find one piece of information about the history of Tonga!! I found heaps of information so I just wrote it in. As our last task we had to find out how Tonga was found/ named or created. Once again I found heaps of information and just put it in. Anyways, I enjoyed this task because I learnt different things about a different Island. Happy Tongan language week everyone and I hope you guys Enjoy this time!!!

New Zealand Fairy Tern

New Zealand Fairy Tern

A New Zealand Fairy Tern is one of the most rarest,

but endangered species within New Zealand. 

Scientific Name:

The scientific name for a New Zealand Fairy Tern is a

Sternula Nereis Davisae.

Appearance:During the breeding season, New Zealand Fairy Terns

have a black head and a yellow and orange beak.The upper part of their body

is a pale grey color.

They have a white throat, forehead, chest and belly, and orange legs.

The length of this bird is around 250mm.

States:

They are endangered and very close to extinction. 

Habitat:

They are commonly found and nest at four sites in Northland at Waipu. T

he four sites are  Mangawhai and Papakanui sand spits, and Pakiri River mouth. 

Diet: These Fairy Terns are carnivores. They mainly eat fish.

They also eat crustaceans, snails and plant material.

Crustaceans are sea creatures that have a really hard shell, such as crabs,

Lobsters and more. 

Reproduction Cycle:

They start breeding within September. They start laying eggs from

late October to early January. They lay 1-2 eggs every now and then. 

Current Population: 

There are approximately 40 individual Fairy  Terns and less than 12

breeding pairs. This is pretty  sad. As I said they are

endangered and need our help!!

Reasons why their Endangered:

Not many of these birds survive between Whangarei in the north

and Auckland to the south. They are threatened by introduced predators

and disturbances by humans.

How are we protecting them:

They are expanding their breeding range back into parts of their former

range. Some people are making some scrape nests for these birds, and

sometimes they’re lucky enough to see a pair of these birds nest in there. 

Future Outlook:

In my opinion I don’t think in 10 or 20 years time there will be any Fairy

terns left in the world, because as I said with the current population,

there aren’t  many left to go. It’s best to just leave these birds  at

peace if they’re trying to mind their own business. 

Fun  Facts: 

Weighing just 70 grams as an adult, the Fairy tern is one of

Australasia’s smallest terns. It’s New Zealand's rarest

breeding bird. The lifespan of a New Zealand Fairy Tern is less than

10 years.
