Taha Whanau - Memory Poster

Here is my first Te Whare Tapa Wha challenge. It's the Taha Whanau, social wellness. We had to make a memory poster about the oldest person in our family.I did my grandmother who was very ill, and still is, but we all make sure to keep her in a good mood. She doesn't live with me, she lives in my home land Rarotonga. I really enjoyed this task, cause I got to have a talk with her.

  1. Kia orana Mamarei,

The memory poster you have created for the TAHA WHANAU challenge is beautiful. Your Nana has passed on to you some very special memories from her life. What a blessing! Thank you for sharing in your poster.

I like your Nana's practical advice about being able to cook and clean - what is a dish that your Nana is famous for making? do you have a favourite recipe that you like to cook?

Take care Mamarei and thanks again for sharing memories from your Nana with us!

    1. Kia Orana Ms Tapuke,

Thank you for this amazing comment! I will answer your questions right now! So in my family we don't really have one special dish. Actually, our family is well known to make the best desserts ever. I know that when we go for a family occasion everyone asks if we can make the desserts, and we accept their request. I don't really have a favorite dish i like to cook, cause I cook anything and everything. Like when people ask if we can make the desserts, i'm always there to help my mum and watch her do different types of cooking, that way I can follow in her foot steps

Take care and thanks for commenting!

    2. Desserts! Oh my goodness - now my mouth really is watering! I love all kinds of desserts - I have a real sweet tooth! Actually I remember your Mum was going to make pineapple pies for our Garage Sale. Hmmm, maybe once we return to school, we could have a dessert day to celebrate being back together? :) By the way, keep helping your Mum - this really is one of the best ways to learn all of her cooking secrets!

    3. Thank you Ms Tapuke,

I can relate with another real sweet tooth. And yes me and my mum were and hopefully are still going to make Pineapple pie while I try my best to help sister in law make the banoffee pie. We will be making both desserts for the garage sale. YES! Can we please have a dessert day day celebration when we get back to school?! It's going to be so fun. But are we making the desserts at school or at home and then bringing it to school. Also I will keep on helping my mum so I can learn her amazing cooking skills.

  2. I agree with Ms Tapuke this is so beautiful. I love that as I read I can hear in your words how you understand how precious our old people are. Well done Mamarei. It's wonderful that this activity has meant having a chat with Nana. How precious!

  3. Kia Orana Mamarei,

You have written a very special memoir of your grandmother that is a real keepsake. It is so important to keep up whanau connections during this lockdown period in our lives. Thank you for sharing your family values and how they have been passed down to you. It is obvious that you have some strong family traditions to uphold as well. I love desserts too and one of my favourites is chocolate mousse. My husband and I went to Rarotonga for our honeymoon 16 years ago and we enjoyed the relaxed island lifestyle, including the seafood and coconut dishes! Keep up the awesome blogging you are doing in lockdown.

    Nga mihi,
    Mrs Carter.
