Special Assembly - 2

Today we had another special assembly. We had to very special guest joining us. Their names were Elizabeth and Joseph Parker. Just in case you didn't know Joseph Parker is a professional New Zealand boxer and Elizabeth is his sister. So today we did the usual things we normally do. One prefect starts the prayer for us, and another prefect says the school mihi. Then we sang the New Zealand national anthum and the prefects said the korero, which was Bin it. Basically meaning to not litter and to always put your rubbish in the bin. It's good, just to save the environment.

After all of those stuff Joseph Parker then stood up and delivered us a inspirational speech. He was giving us two very special korero's that he used throughout his career. The first one he said was "Believe in yourself!". He said it means that if you want to get better at something you must first believe in yourself and to not let others people tell you that your good at it. Like if you want to get better at reading. You must be very determined to do it and to take time in believing that you can do it. The next korero he said was "Nothing beats hard work!". He said that it means you may be talented, brilliant, innovative etc. BUT if you are not willing to do hard work, you are not going to achieve much – not in your studies, career, personal life, habits, hobbies, relationships – anything that you can name.

After all of that Joseph Parker and his sister got to help hand out our duffy certificates. Then we just did all the other stuff that we normally do, like the sports announcements, lunch box heros, and singing. The song that we had to sing was the Matariki song. Our team 5 choir students went up to the stage, along with one of the support staff Mr Wright and our lead singer John T. Honestly his voice was really beautiful and it was a blessing hearing him sing. Then we had to sing it again because Mr Burt said he could only hear the power of the song coming from the little kids. So we sang it again. So that's all that happened.
